Privacy Policy
Arkaan is a Muslim companion app providing prayer times, Qibla direction, daily Quran verses, and home/lock screen widgets. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Data We Collect
Location Data
What: Your device's GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude).
Why: To calculate accurate prayer times and Qibla direction for your location.
How: Location is requested only when needed. Coordinates are processed on-device and cached locally. We do not transmit your coordinates to any server, and your location is never included in the usage statistics described below.
Reverse Geocoding: Your coordinates may be sent to a geocoding service to determine your city name for display purposes. This is the only network request involving location data, and it is optional — the app functions fully without it.
Device Sensors
Compass: We access your device's magnetometer/compass sensor to determine Qibla direction. Sensor data is never stored or transmitted.
App Settings & Preferences
Stored locally on your device using system storage (SharedPreferences on Android, UserDefaults on iOS). This includes:
- Calculation method and madhab preference
- Notification preferences per prayer
- Language and display settings
- Widget style and accent color (Pro)
- Hijri date offset
- Arkaan Pro status (subscription or lifetime)
None of this data leaves your device except as described in the Usage Statistics and Arkaan Pro sections below.
Usage Statistics
Starting with version 1.3, Arkaan sends usage statistics through Google Analytics for Firebase, an analytics service from Google. They help us understand which parts of the app are used and where people get stuck, so we can make it better.
What is sent:
- Simple events from inside the app, such as "onboarding step viewed", "paywall viewed" or "purchase started"
- Basic technical details that Google Analytics adds to each event: app version, iOS version, device model, your device's language, and your approximate area (country, region or city), which Google works out from your internet address without storing the address
- A random identifier for this installation of the app. It is not your name, your Apple Account or your advertising identifier, and it is replaced if you reinstall the app
What Arkaan never sends: the location or city it uses for your prayer times, your name, email or contacts, or your advertising identifier.
We do not use these statistics for advertising, we do not link them to your identity, and we do not use them to track you across other companies' apps or websites. Google Analytics does not log or store individual IP addresses, and its advertising features are turned off in Arkaan.

No Account Required
Arkaan does not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, or any personal identifiers.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not serve advertisements
- We do not use your advertising identifier (IDFA) or track your behavior across apps or websites
- We do not sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers
- We do not send your location to analytics
- We do not collect or store prayer history or personal schedules
- We do not access your contacts, camera, microphone, or photos
Arkaan Pro (Subscriptions and Lifetime)
Arkaan Pro is offered as an auto-renewing subscription (yearly or monthly) or as a one-time Lifetime purchase. Purchases are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store), and Pro access is managed through RevenueCat, a third-party subscription management service. When you buy, start a free trial, or restore a purchase:
- Payment is processed by Apple or Google — we never see your payment details
- RevenueCat receives your purchase receipt and transaction details (such as product, purchase date, renewal and expiry) to confirm your Pro access and to restore it on a new device
- RevenueCat uses an anonymous app user ID that is not linked to your name or email, and may collect device identifiers and transaction metadata per their own privacy policy

Notifications
If you enable prayer notifications, we schedule local notifications on your device. These are processed entirely on-device — no notification data is sent to external servers.
Home & Lock Screen Widgets
Widget data (prayer times, Quran verses, style settings) is stored in an App Group container (iOS) or SharedPreferences (Android) on your device. This data is not transmitted to any server.

We do not integrate advertising SDKs or social login providers. Google Analytics for Firebase is the only analytics service we use.
Children's Privacy
Arkaan does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. The app does not require account creation and collects no personal information (the usage statistics described above carry no name, email or account), making it safe for all ages.
Data Storage & Security
Your settings and app data are stored locally on your device and are subject to your device's own security (passcode, biometrics, encryption). We do not operate servers that store your personal data. Usage statistics are stored by Google, and purchase records are kept by Apple or Google and RevenueCat.
Your Rights
Because we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, most data rights requests (access, deletion, portability) are fulfilled by managing your own device:
- Delete app data: Uninstall the app or clear app data in device settings
- Revoke location permission: Via device Settings → Arkaan → Location
- Revoke notification permission: Via device Settings → Arkaan → Notifications
- Cancel subscription: On iPhone, via Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Arkaan; on Android, via Google Play → Payments & subscriptions
Usage statistics carry no name, email or account, so we have no way to find the statistics that came from a particular person. Deleting the app clears the installation identifier. For RevenueCat-related data requests, contact RevenueCat directly at privacy@revenuecat.com.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Significant changes will be noted in the app update release notes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Arkaan is built with privacy by design — offline-first, no ads, no tracking.
